25 October 2014. Rainshadow will host the Build Our Center group as led by Meredith Tanzer on October 25 from 11-1 p.m. This collaboration will continue with two Saturdays per month through January.
Build Our Center is a non-profit organization working to Build, Connect, and Strengthen community and its support for LGBTQA issues in Northern Nevada, with the goal of building a community center. Its long term vision is to build a thriving, community-based organization to support the LGBTQA community in Northern Nevada. Their dream is to create a safe and supportive space and environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together under one roof for cultural, educational, health, social, and wellness programs. Check them out at www.buildourcenter.org. September 15, 2014. Rainshadow seniors had the opportunity to give back to the community today by stenciling storm drains around Wells Avenue. Students learned about the program from individuals from Stantec, and were able to go out with professionals from the community to complete this service learning activity. August 26, 2014. Rainshadow, in collaboration with the Great Basin Institute, was thrilled to be able to offer camping trips for all students at Rainshadow. Students were be grouped according to their grade, and spent the week at Galena Creek Park. During the week, they participated in experiential learning, and had opportunity to bond with their fellow classmates and faculty.
This was a unique experience that only Rainshadow students had the opportunity to participate in! Stay tuned for pictures and video clips from the experience. September 14, 2014. 1st Annual Vesta-Ful! Reno's newest and family oriented street party will take place on Sunday, 9/14/14 on Vesta Street from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature music, crafters, bounce house, antiques, food from food trucks and Rainshadow catering, collectibles, tattoo's, educational displays, and more! All proceeds from the event will go to Rainshadow. Parents who wish to volunteer should contact the school and speak with Toby. Individuals wishing to have a boot at the event can contact Rose Ann at 332-2994 or Nancy at 762-1827 at the Pepper Tree Gift Store. We hope to see everyone out for this event!
May 29, 2014. Rainshadow students cater Broken Wing at the Reno/Tahoe Airport. Broken Wing is a full-scale multiagency aircraft disaster exercise that is held every three years in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Students were on hand to serve all the response agencies.
This is one of several events Rainshadow Culinary has been involved in catering. Past events include: Chamber of Commerce, opening of the United Federal Credit Union on Robb Drive, and the Scholastic Student Art Awards at the Holland Project. To have your own event catered by Rainshadow, contact Chef Chris Jalkson. What a successful evening with great presentations! Seniors presented on May 28 and were able to share all the ways they have grown as people. 18 students presented to panels of three judges. Parents and family members came out for support. Several underclassmen all came to show support, and to learn what they will be responsible for doing as seniors. It was a great success! The English department has worked hard to prepare all students, so thank you to Shawn Finn, Roxy Brooks, Sam O'Brien, and Emily Reese. Thank you to the panels, and most of all, thank you to the fantastic class of 2014!

May 23, 2014. Rainshadow Art Auction Fundraiser. 5:30 to 8 pm at the Reno Little Theater. We will have a cash bar, snacks, and auction off twenty pieces of art from well known regional artists including Erik Holland, Jean LeGassick, Gina Lijoi, Larry Jacox, and Amy Louise Mazza! Some pieces are from my personal art collection formed over the years. Check us out at our Facebook Event page!
Update: The fundraiser sold several works of art, and 50% of those sold will go to the school. Thank you to all who showed up! Mr. Sam O'Brien and Ms. Kristen Quintana, instructors in the social studies department, took 10 students to the Atlantis Casino where they heard survivor Doreen Rappaport speak.
